The
extended form of Prince2 is Projects IN Controlled Environments. It was
established in the year 1989 by CCTA or the Central Computer and
Telecommunications Agency. Prince was later developed gradually into Prince2.
It was based on PROMPT that was developed in the year 1975. In a world where
there are many people running around with the project manager title, a
certification is one way to be notable of the crowd. Long term success of
project managers are limited if they do not possess the necessary skills.
Project managers who are not well-versed in technical skills cannot perform
their role effectively. Project management is a skill more than a role. The
benefits of Prince2 training and prince2 courses can be enjoyed by both an
individual and an organisation. Today Prince2 training and Prince2
certification is in demand. Prince2 certification is a process-based approach
for project management. In this method plans are designed to meet the needs of
the different levels in the management team for improving communication and
control. Today Prince2 certification is very desirable for a project management
professional.
In
this method plans are designed to meet the needs of the different levels in the
management team for improving communication and control. Prince2 course
promotes consistency of project work and the ability to reuse project assets. Prince2
is frequently used for management of projects within an MSP (managing successful
projects) framework. Prince 2 is also the effective project management standard
in the UK. However it has also been widely adopted in all countries. The Prince2 training program focuses on
business justification, imparts a defined structure for a project management
team, is a process-based methodology to project management, divides projects
into controllable stages, is applicable to any project in any organisation, and
offers a scalable project management methodology.
The
Prince2 training was initiated by the United Kingdom Government. The Prince2
stands on 7themes, 7 principles and 7 processes. A set of 7 principles that
guide the project management team during the PRINCE2 project life cycle must be
applied to every PRINCE2 project:
1.
Business justification – A PRINCE2 project needs to have continued business
justification.
2.
Learn from experience –time and lessons need to be created for the acquirement
within a prince 2 project.
3.
Roles and Responsibilities – A PRINCE2 project has defined roles and responsibilities.
The project manager cannot sign-off on the project budget and this is the
responsibility of the senior management team.
4.
Manage by Stages – A PRINCE2 project must be planned, monitored and controlled.
PRINCE2 requires minimum of two management stages.
5.
Manage by exception – A PRINCE2 project has defined tolerances for each project
objective. It has established ground rules on delegated authority.
6.
Focus on products – A PRINCE2 project must address proper definition, quality
and delivery of products. Each product will have a Product Description that
defines the purpose, composition, format, quality etc.
7.
Tailor to suit the environment – The PRINCE2 methodology must be tailored to
suit the project. Project’s size, environment, importance, complexity,
capability and risks must be tailored.
